I am a scientist who just finished my PhD with Dr. Julia Baum at the University of Victoria, Canada. I have a keen interest in applying statistics to problems in marine conservation and shark science. My research focused on assessing the relationship between sharks and marine protected areas in the Eastern Tropical Pacific and South Africa. I spent six months conducting field work with the South African Shark Conservancy to study shark diversity and abundance using baited remote under water video within marine protected areas.
My love of sharks has driven me to where I am, but it is my love of teaching that has truly nurtured my passion for science. Mentoring others and sharing my love of knowledge has been the most rewarding experience of my PhD, and I was lucky to teach a course on biological statistics, one of my favourite things!
My main passion is sharing my love of science and other important ideas through fiction, writing about scientists and the struggles we face! Check out my blog blending science and storytelling below!
